Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — The pride of MAN 3 Sleman, the karawitan (traditional Javanese orchestra) group Mayoga Laras, has successfully secured the 2nd Runner-Up title in the prestigious “High School/Vocational School Level Karawitan Art Competition across DIY and Central Java.” The competition was organized by the State Community Academy of Arts and Culture Yogyakarta (AKNSBY) on Saturday (13/6/2026).

Under the guidance of their coach, Warsito, and accompanied directly by MAN 3 Sleman’s Javanese language teacher, Neshi Rasyida, the MAN 3 Sleman karawitan team delivered a mesmerizing performance before the judges and the audience. The Mayoga Laras group presented a beautiful harmony of traditional Javanese music through two gending (musical pieces): the compulsory piece, Ladrang Semar Mantu Laras Pelog Pathet Nem, and their choice piece, Lelagon Kembang Jagung Laras Slendro Pathet Manyura.

Neshi revealed that the Mayoga Laras team’s journey this time was met with quite a tough challenge. The intensive training process took place for three consecutive weeks amidst the school’s packed academic schedule. All 18 team members, consisting of students from grades X and XI, had to divide their focus and energy because the practice sessions coincided with the Mayoga Semester Assessment Program (PASMA).

“We practiced intensively for three consecutive weeks. Even though our team was also struggling through PASMA at the same time, the students kept practicing with high enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility,” Neshi expressed.

This proud achievement amidst a busy school schedule is clear proof that time constraints are not a barrier when faced with strong determination. Hopefully, this accomplishment will inspire all students of MAN 3 Sleman to continue honing their potential and dare to push through challenges, both in academic and non-academic fields. (nes/est)
