Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — Grade XI students of MAN 3 Sleman conducted an educational visit to Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya as part of the Gelar Pengenalan Lingkungan dan Observasi Kampus Impian (GALAKSI) 2026 program on Monday (19/1/2026), from 09.00 to 11.00 WIB. The activity aimed to broaden students’ understanding of higher education, particularly in the fields of research, science, and data analytics.
During the visit, the students were divided into two groups. The first group visited the ITS Rectorate and Research Center, where welcoming remarks on behalf of MAN 3 Sleman were delivered by Singgih Sampurno, S.Pd., M.A., the Principal of MAN 3 Sleman. In his address, he emphasized the importance of early exposure to university life and research culture in preparing students for their future academic and professional careers.

The second group visited the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD) at ITS. On this occasion, MAN 3 Sleman was represented by Prof. Dr. H. Amir Mu’allim, MIS, the Chairman of the MAN 3 Sleman School Committee, who highlighted the strategic role of science and data analytics in responding to global challenges and rapid technological development.
From the ITS side, the session at FSAD was represented by Dr. Lila Yuwana, who provided an overview of the faculty, academic programs, and learning environment, as well as the opportunities available for students pursuing studies in science and data-related fields. The presentation encouraged active engagement and curiosity among the participants.

The interactive discussion became more meaningful when Ahmad Izzuddin, a student from the LBCI (Layanan Belajar Cerdas Istimewa / Special Learning Program for Gifted Students), raised a question regarding the competitiveness of ITS undergraduate graduates, particularly from the Engineering Physics discipline, in the job market without continuing to master’s or doctoral levels. He also asked about the key skills that graduates should develop to succeed professionally.
Responding to the question, Dr. Lila Yuwana explained that the competitiveness of ITS graduates is not determined solely by academic performance. She also noted that ITS graduates compete alongside alumni from other leading universities in Indonesia, including UGM, ITB, and other top national institutions.
“ITS Physics Engineering graduates have great opportunities in the world of work if they are able to develop research skills, entrepreneurial abilities, problem-solving capacity, and strong soft skills, which significantly enhance graduates’ readiness to compete in the workforce,” said Lila.

Throughout the visit, students demonstrated high enthusiasm by actively participating in discussions, observing academic and research facilities, and gaining insights into university culture and career pathways. The activity provided a valuable learning experience that helped bridge the gap between secondary education and higher education.
Through this program, MAN 3 Sleman hopes to motivate students to plan their academic futures more thoughtfully, strengthen their interest in research and scientific fields, and better prepare themselves for the challenges of higher education after graduating from madrasah. (fiq)
