Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) – In commemoration of Eid al-Adha 1447 H, MAN 3 Sleman organized its annual qurban slaughtering activity on Friday (May 29, 2026). Held in the front courtyard of the madrasa, the event involved all Grade 10 and 11 students, alongside teachers and staff members.
Before the qurban practice began, hundreds of students and members of the madrasa community gathered in an orderly assembly to listen to a short religious lecture (kultum) delivered by Mohamad Nua’im, an Arabic language teacher at MAN 3 Sleman.
In his presentation, Nua’im explored the profound lessons behind the act of qurban by revisiting the inspiring story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Prophet Ismail (Ishmael). He highlighted how Prophet Ibrahim faced one of the greatest tests of faith when he was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his beloved son, whom he had long awaited.
“Through this story, Prophet Ibrahim demonstrated complete submission and unwavering obedience when receiving Allah’s command. It represents the highest example of faith, sincerity, and devotion,” Nua’im explained.
He further emphasized several key values that can be drawn from the narrative. First, qurban teaches Muslims to place Allah’s commands above personal interests, worldly desires, and human reasoning. Second, the story serves as a test of love, challenging believers to reflect on whether their attachment to worldly matters exceeds their devotion to their Creator. Finally, Eid al-Adha reminds Muslims of the importance of sincerity and the willingness to sacrifice what is most precious in pursuit of Allah’s pleasure.
Following the sermon, participants proceeded with the qurban slaughtering practice. Beyond fulfilling an annual religious tradition, the activity aims to instill values of selflessness, obedience, and social responsibility among students, helping them develop both spiritual awareness and compassion for others.
