GEMAQU 1447 H Brings Qurban Education and Student Competitions to MAN 3 Sleman

Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) – The celebration of Eid al-Adha 1447 H at MAN 3 Sleman was marked by a vibrant blend of religious learning, hands-on experience, and student engagement. On Friday (May 29, 2026), the madrasa, popularly known as Mayoga, held its annual qurban program under the banner GEMAQU (Mayoga Qurban Education Initiative).

Centered in the school courtyard, the event featured the slaughtering of one cow and nine goats, providing students with a meaningful opportunity to observe and participate in the implementation of one of Islam’s important acts of worship.

The program began with a solemn atmosphere as the qurban animals were slaughtered in accordance with Islamic guidelines. The process was carried out by MAN 3 Sleman teachers, assisted by a professional slaughtering team to ensure that both religious requirements and technical procedures were properly observed.

To encourage greater student participation, this year’s GEMAQU committee introduced a series of inter-class competitions that generated remarkable enthusiasm among Grade 10 and 11 students. The competitions included a goat-skinning contest, a cooking challenge, and a classroom cleanliness competition.

“The students’ enthusiasm has been extraordinary. They were not merely spectators; they actively participated in various stages of the event, from meat processing and competitions to maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment,” said Herry Pasa, chairman of the organizing committee.

Beyond being an annual tradition, GEMAQU is designed as a contextual learning program that allows students to experience the values behind qurban firsthand. Through this activity, students and members of the madrasa community are encouraged to reflect on the true meaning of sacrifice, devotion, and obedience as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and Prophet Ismail (Ishmael).

By combining religious practice with collaborative and educational activities, GEMAQU continues to serve as an effective platform for character building, fostering responsibility, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the spiritual significance of Eid al-Adha. (est)
