Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) – Eid al-Adha celebrations at MAN 3 Sleman this year went far beyond the traditional observance of qurban. On Friday (May 29, 2026), the madrasa transformed the occasion into an engaging educational experience through a series of inter-class competitions designed to foster teamwork, creativity, and solidarity among students.
As part of the celebration, MAN 3 Sleman conducted the slaughtering of one cow and nine goats. The qurban animals subsequently became the centerpiece of several hands-on learning activities involving Grade 10 and 11 students.

One of the most anticipated events was the goat-skinning competition, which attracted significant attention from participants and spectators alike. The nine goats were assigned to nine student teams representing different classes. Under close supervision, students worked collaboratively, demonstrating both skill and precision as they competed to process the animals efficiently and neatly.
The festive atmosphere extended beyond the qurban area. Students also participated in a classroom cleanliness competition, which challenged each class to maintain a clean, organized, and comfortable learning environment amid the busy celebration. The contest encouraged collective responsibility and strengthened class unity.
Meanwhile, the lower floor of the Multi-Purpose Building, located beneath Masjid Muntasyirul Ulum, was transformed into a lively cooking arena. Students enthusiastically showcased their culinary talents by turning qurban meat into a variety of dishes inspired by both Indonesian and Middle Eastern cuisines.

The competition featured an impressive range of menu creations, including satay, tongseng, Betawi-style soup, dendeng, and contemporary favorites such as kebabs. Working in teams, students displayed creativity not only in flavor but also in presentation.
The judging process was conducted by MAN 3 Sleman teachers serving as the evaluation panel. Ami, one of the cooking competition judges, expressed admiration for the students’ culinary abilities and innovation.
“The students were incredibly creative. The dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented,” she remarked.
Through these activities, MAN 3 Sleman successfully combined the spiritual values of Eid al-Adha with practical learning experiences. Beyond understanding the meaning of sacrifice and sharing, students were given opportunities to develop valuable life skills, strengthen independence, and build stronger bonds with their peers. (est)
