Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — Grade XI students of MAN 3 Sleman conducted an educational visit to the Basic Physics Laboratory of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya on Monday (19/1/2026). The visit was part of the Gelar Pengenalan Lingkungan dan Observasi Kampus Impian (GALAKSI) 2026 program, aimed at strengthening students’ scientific literacy and providing direct exposure to university-level learning environments.
The activity involved MAN 3 Sleman students accompanied by their teachers. Throughout the visit, students were guided by laboratory assistants from the Department of Physics at ITS, consisting of undergraduate students in their 6th and 7th semesters. The assistants provided explanations regarding laboratory equipment, experimental procedures, and the underlying principles of basic physics.

During the session, students were introduced to various basic physics laboratory instruments and experiments, including moment of inertia of rigid bodies, Ohm’s Law, fluid viscosity using the Ostwald method, fluid viscosity using the falling ball method, magnetic fields in solenoids, coefficient of friction, Fletcher trolley (dynamics cart), moment of inertia of a rotating wheel, as well as momentum and collisions. The demonstrations helped students connect theoretical concepts learned at school with practical experimental applications.

According to Nur Sulhiyatun Wahidah, a physics teacher who assisted with the equipment introduction, the visit was conducted systematically and engagingly. “It was systematic and engaging, of course. This laboratory visit helped students understand the connection between the theoretical concepts learned at school and the experimental practices in the laboratory,” she said.
Through this laboratory visit, MAN 3 Sleman hopes that students gain a deeper understanding of physics learning at the university level, particularly in laboratory-based instruction and basic research activities. The program is also expected to increase students’ learning motivation, foster scientific thinking, and inspire them to pursue further studies in science and technology-related fields. (fiq)
