Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — In an effort to instill social awareness and environmental responsibility, the nature lovers group of MAN 3 Sleman (PALAMAGA) carried out a mountain expedition to Mount Lawu via Candi Ceto from April 3–5, 2026. The activity, themed “Tapak Rimba Lawu: Climb with Ethics, Return with Meaning,” involved 16 student participants accompanied by one PALAMAGA supervisor and two teacher mentors.
As a tangible implementation of compassion and contribution, the expedition began with the donation of Qur’ans to the management of Masjid Ulul Albab, represented by Sutarjo, at 04:45 WIB before the climb commenced. On that occasion, Sutarjo shared that most of the local community around the area are non-Muslims (predominantly Hindu). Nevertheless, he warmly welcomed the donation and expressed hope that the Qur’ans would benefit travelers and visitors stopping by the mosque.

In addition to the Qur’an donation, the students also handed over tree seedlings at 07:00 WIB as a concrete contribution to environmental preservation. This initiative symbolizes the commitment of the younger generation not only to enjoy the beauty of nature but also to actively protect and sustain it.
The Head of MAN 3 Sleman, Singgih Sampurno, emphasized that this activity goes beyond a physical journey.

“We hope the students gain not only physical experience but also spiritual, social, and ecological values that can be applied in daily life. This expedition is a small yet meaningful step in shaping a generation that is caring, ethical, and responsible toward others and the environment,” he stated.
Through this initiative, the PALAMAGA expedition reflects a harmonious blend of spiritual devotion, social contribution, and environmental stewardship, leaving behind not just footprints on the trail, but meaningful impact for the community and nature. (mia)
