Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) – Students of Pondok Pesantren Muntasyirul Ulum at MAN 3 Sleman stepped out of their classrooms and into history during an educational visit to Lawang Sewu, Semarang, on Sunday (February 15, 2026). The trip was part of the school’s rihlah program—an experiential learning journey that blends education, reflection, and community building.
Seventy-five students joined the excursion, accompanied by teachers, dorm mentors, and school leaders, bringing the total group to 99 participants. At the site, students explored the iconic building, learned about its historical background, and took part in group activities designed to strengthen teamwork and awareness of national heritage.
Head of the PPMU dormitory, Dra. Wahidatul Mukarromah, M.Pd.I. emphasized that meaningful learning often happens through direct experience.
“When students encounter history in real places, it becomes more than information—it becomes perspective. They learn to value the past and reflect on its lessons for their lives today,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the principal of MAN 3 Sleman, Singgih Sampurno, S.Pd., M.A. highlighted the character-building side of the program.
“Trips like this nurture discipline, gratitude, and togetherness. We want our students to return not only with new knowledge, but with stronger character,” he said.
Known for its distinctive architecture and long historical journey, Lawang Sewu offers more than visual appeal—it tells stories about the nation’s past. For the students, the visit turned history into a living classroom.
Through programs like this, the school continues to promote holistic education—developing students intellectually, socially, and morally, while keeping them connected to their cultural roots. (fiq)
