MAN 3 Sleman Successfully Hosts Mention #8, Showcasing Young English Talents from Yogyakarta and Central Java

Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — MAN 3 Sleman once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing students’ potential by hosting the Mayoga English Competition (Mention) #8 on Saturday (14/2/2026). The annual English contest, organized under the Mayoga English Club, brought together junior high school students (SMP/MTs) from Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta and Jawa Tengah.

A total of 187 participants competed in this year’s event. The competition featured several categories, including speech, storytelling, news anchor, sing a song, and quick and smart. Notably, news anchor was introduced as a new category, adding fresh excitement and variety to the program.

The opening ceremony was lively and vibrant, highlighted by a traditional Tari Tanjung Gemirang performance by three MAN 3 Sleman students. The cultural dance captivated participants and guests, blending local heritage with the global spirit of English learning.

In his remarks, Head of MAN 3 Sleman, Singgih Sampurno, expressed appreciation for everyone involved. He voiced hope that Mention would continue to grow into a prestigious platform that produces outstanding English talents.

Echoing this sentiment, the school committee chair, Amir Mu’allim, emphasized the importance of foreign language proficiency. According to him, English skills are essential for young people to compete nationally and globally. He also shared aspirations to include Arabic competitions in the future to strengthen the madrasah’s identity.

The ceremony symbolically marked the start of the competition with a balloon release, followed by a prayer led by Khamim Zarkasih Putro, seeking smooth and blessed proceedings.

More than just a contest, Mention #8 served as a platform for coaching, confidence-building, and talent development. With a healthy and inspiring competitive atmosphere, the event aims to shape a generation that is confident, accomplished, and ready to engage on the international stage. (est)
