Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) – Students of Pondok Pesantren Muntasyirul Ulum at MAN 3 Sleman took part in a religious study trip to the burial site of the prominent Indonesian scholar K.H. Sholeh Darat in Semarang on Sunday (February 15, 2026). The visit was part of a student rihlah program designed to integrate spiritual reflection, learning experiences, and character development.
A total of 75 students joined the trip, accompanied by teachers, dormitory mentors, the boarding school caretaker, and school leaders, bringing the total number of participants to 99. The pilgrimage included collective prayers, remembrance (dhikr), and short reflections on the legacy of past scholars.

Head of the PPMU dormitory, Dra. Wahidatul Mukarromah, explained that the activity was meant to instill values that go beyond classroom learning.
“This is not just a visit, but a character-building journey. Students learn to appreciate the legacy of scholars and to realize that knowledge must be grounded in good manners and ethics,” she said.
Similarly, PPMU caretaker Drs. K.H. Zainal Abidin highlighted the importance of scholarly lineage in Islamic tradition.
“Great scholars of the past spread Islam through knowledge, patience, and exemplary conduct. We hope our students absorb that spirit and carry it forward in their lives,” he noted.

K.H. Sholeh Darat is widely recognized as one of the key figures in 19th-century Javanese Islamic scholarship. He was among the pioneers who wrote Islamic works in Javanese using Arabic script (Pegon), making religious teachings more accessible to local communities. His contributions to Qur’anic interpretation and Islamic jurisprudence left a lasting mark on the development of Islam in Java, and his works continue to be studied in pesantren today.
Through this pilgrimage, the school hopes students will deepen their respect for Islamic scholarly traditions, emulate the moral character of past scholars, and practice the values of compassionate and balanced Islam in their daily lives. (fiq)
