Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — The atmosphere inside the AVA Hall of PPMU was noticeably vibrant on Wednesday morning (February 25, 2026). Rows of Grade X and XI students filled the room with enthusiasm, marking the official opening of Murafest #6, an annual Ramadan program that has become a cherished tradition within the boarding school community.
The opening ceremony was enlivened by the debut performance of Az-Zahra, a newly formed nasyid group within PPMU. The group delivered heartfelt sholawat performances, adding a solemn yet uplifting tone to the event. The festival was officially inaugurated by PPMU caretaker Zaenal Abidin, affectionately known as Abah. He was accompanied by the Head of MAN 3 Sleman, Singgih Sampurno, and dormitory head Wahidatul Mukarromah.
This year’s Murafest #6 emphasizes that Ramadan is not merely a time to enhance personal faith and worship, but also a space for character building, creativity, and social responsibility.
“Ramadan should shape individuals who are ready to contribute meaningfully to society,” Singgih stated in his remarks.
Murafest, short for Muntasyirul Ulum Ramadan Festival, has evolved into both an intellectual and cultural tradition at PPMU. Each year, the event is designed not simply as a ceremonial competition, but as a platform to strengthen students’ soft skills, leadership qualities, and religious competencies.

In his address, the Head of the Madrasah expressed hope that organizational activities and competitions like Murafest would equip students with practical skills when they return to their hometowns.
“Students must be ready to serve as prayer leaders, lead tahlil, perform funeral rites, and actively participate in the social and religious life of their communities,” he emphasized. According to him, pesantren education should not stop at cognitive understanding but must extend into practical application.
This year, Murafest #6 carries the theme “Innovation in Islamic History as a Beacon for Contemporary Progress.” The theme reflects an effort to view Islamic history not as mere nostalgia, but as a source of inspiration to address modern challenges. Conceptually, this approach aligns with an integrative educational paradigm that connects historical values, spirituality, and social transformation.
The competition series will take place on March 7, 2026, featuring various artistic and religious skill categories such as cooking contests, Muslim fashion shows, MHQ (Qur’an Memorization Competition), MTTQ (Qur’anic Recitation Competition), nasyid, and Islamic storytelling. Each category is designed to accommodate the diverse talents of students, from aesthetics and literacy to public speaking skills.
The highlight of Murafest will be held on March 14, 2026, featuring distinguished guest speakers in an inspirational session followed by a communal iftar. After the Isya and Tarawih prayers, the Murafest stage will come alive with spectacular student performances, symbolizing both creative celebration and spiritual reflection during the holy month.
Murafest #6 is intended for all Grade X and XI students of PPMU. With a spirit of healthy competition and collaboration, the festival is expected to serve not only as an annual event but also as a contextual learning space that nurtures a religious, adaptive, and socially responsible generation ready to contribute to society.
