FPMY #9 Returns: MAN 3 Sleman Hosts Major Islamic Student Festival

Sleman (MAN 3 Sleman) — MAN 3 Sleman once again hosted its annual inter-school religious competition through the 9th Festival Pelajar Muslim Yogyakarta (FPMY #9) on Saturday (January 31, 2026). The festival serves as a platform to develop both the academic and non-academic potential of Muslim students while strengthening Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah islamiyah).

This year’s FPMY featured eleven competition categories, including both individual and group events: Qur’an Recitation (MTQ), Tartil Qur’an (MTTQ), Qur’anic Interpretation (MSQ), Qur’an Memorization (MHQ), Adhan, Islamic calligraphy, Islamic Quiz Competition (CCA), hadroh, Arabic speech, poetry, and da’i (Islamic preaching). Students from various schools and madrasahs across Yogyakarta and surrounding areas took part in the competitions.

The opening ceremony was held solemnly in the front courtyard of MAN 3 Sleman. The festival was officially launched with a ceremonial gong strike by Hj. Anita Isdarmini, S.Pd., M.Hum., Sub-Coordinator for Curriculum and Student Affairs of the Madrasah Education Division, Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Yogyakarta.

In her remarks, Anita expressed high appreciation for the Islamic student organization (ROHIS) of MAN 3 Sleman for consistently initiating and organizing the event for nine consecutive years.

“We fully support inter-student competitions like this, especially since Yogyakarta is one of Indonesia’s educational benchmarks. Our appreciation goes to MAN 3 Sleman for initiating and sustaining FPMY,” she stated.

She emphasized that the festival is designed to boost both academic and non-academic motivation, deepen Islamic understanding, and foster a healthy competitive spirit among students. She also reminded participants that the event is not solely about winning.

“Those who win deserve recognition, and those who do not win should not feel discouraged. This does not reflect their competence. May this event strengthen the bonds among Muslim students,” she added.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Chairperson of the MAN 3 Sleman Committee, the Head of MAN 3 Sleman, the Head of Administration, and the vice principals. Their presence reflected strong institutional support for religious activities that carry educational and spiritual values. (est)
